Body Surfing in Costa Rica – You Should Try It

I stood in the warm, rolling surf and reveled in the power of the ocean as it rolled ceaselessly towards the Costa Rican shoreline. It was a hot, sunny day, and I was trying my hand at body surfing again. As a teenager, my parents had taken my sister and I numerous times to Barbados – their favourite island – and we had spent countless glorious days perfecting our body surfing techniques. You have to catch just the right wave at just the right time in order to enjoy a perfect ride, and you need to flatten your body just so, in order to feel the fabulous sweep of the wave, to become one with the wave. Body surfing in tropical water is one of my favourite things to do.

Now, as an adult, things had changed. Somehow – how does this happen? – my body had morphed out of the slender, sprightly and very fit form I had taken for granted at 16. I had gained a few pounds. Life had given me some fading scars and some nascent joint issues. I was more wary; perhaps I felt there was more cause to be cautious. Yet, here I was, a very middle-aged mom, splashing and laughing as though I were a carefree teenager, making the most of the friendly waves that embraced me on a perfect Costa Rican day.

I was in Costa Rica as part of a group of people participating in a five-day program based around building a transformational business. It was a profound experience, and I came away with some insights and perspectives that have served me well. I’ve participated in many transformational excursions in the past decade or so, and have benefited tremendously from the experiences, insights, and friendships that have come my way as a result. My trip to New Zealand in the spring of 2017 was the icing on the cake, and I was thrilled recently to be invited to take a leadership role in its successor, a 10-day adventure experience to – you guessed it – Costa Rica.

Unlike typical tourist trips to Costa Rica, this transformational journey will combine adventure opportunities like ziplining and rafting with humanitarian work and speaking opportunities. The agenda is packed with visits to some of the most exquisite locations in Costa Rica – the Tabacon hot springs in Arenal, the Peace Lodge Wildlife Sanctuary at the La Paz Waterfalls, and the beach front and national park area of Manuel Antonio. It’s going to be mind-blowing and heart-expanding. This is a “working” expedition, where all participants will be asked to expand their inner and outer horizons and take the next exploratory steps towards who they are here to be. And to express more of who they are within the context of other people who are also here to support peace on the planet.

Would you like to join me on the adventure? Your trip will be filmed by a professional film crew, and you will come away with video footage you can use in your marketing that highlights you speaking onstage and supporting volunteer initiatives. The live online event at which we will all be speaking will be livestreamed around the world, and everyone who joins the journey will become part of a mobile app through which you can feature your business on an ongoing basis. Aside from all of that, there will also be body surfing, for those who are interested!

This is a world-class opportunity and I am honoured to be part of the leadership team. If you would like to find out more about whether this is a good fit for you, contact me directly and let’s book a time to chat. We will have boots on the ground on April 28th, 2018.
