I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions anymore for the simple reason that setting and achieving goals has become an innate part of daily life for me. I think that one way or another we each design the life we get by virtue of the dozens of decisions we make every day, rather than a few bold declarations scribbled in panic at the start of a new year.

That being said, there is something shiny about a brand new year, something akin to the pristine glimmer of a fresh sheet of white paper. And for the record, here are a few of the items I will be scribbling on the pages of my life as I wheel through the next 12 months:

1.      SEO and SMM. Will I ever know enough about Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Marketing? I have a grounding in both areas right now and my experience has shown that time and money invested in this area returns great value. I want to learn more!

2.      Fiction writing and book publishing. There are conventions in both areas that I haven’t yet mastered and that’s just a question of time and energy. A growing number of my clients are writing books -- or want to – and I’m keen to extend both my knowledge base and my network to give the best service possible.

3.      Video. I’ve been planning to create some easy-to-follow videos of writing tips since last June and I’ve been too busy to get there. This year I’m going to crack that barrier.

4.      Write my non-fiction book on writing. I have one fiction manuscript under my belt but I’ve also been kicking around a few ideas for a non-fiction book and I’d like to start bringing it to life.

5.      Efficiencies. Crossman Communications grew this year and I’m delighted to off-load some of the tasks I no longer have time to complete. Although I’m highly organized by nature, life rarely is and if you have efficiency-related ideas you’d like to share, please comment below!

6.      Roses. I’m going to smell more of them. Much as I love my work, I’m going to balance those 10-and 12-hour workdays with  more good books, family time and socializing.  Life is short and every moment with a rosebud is a moment you can’t get off ebay.

All the best for a productive, profitable and enjoyable 2011, everyone!
